About Dentist Disaster
Friendly, balanced, evidence-based help for anyone whose teeth have gone a bit wrong.
Why this site exists
A chipped tooth, a sudden toothache or a smile you’re unhappy with can be worrying, and searching online often turns up adverts dressed up as advice. Dentist Disaster sets out, in plain English, what commonly goes wrong with teeth, how urgent it is, and every realistic way it can be fixed or improved – including the downsides and what’s available on the NHS.
We’re here to help you understand your options and have a better conversation with your dentist. We don’t diagnose, and we can’t replace an examination.
How we write and check our information
- Health information is based on trusted UK sources: the NHS, NHS inform (Scotland), the General Dental Council, the British Orthodontic Society, the Oral Health Foundation, NICE and Cochrane reviews. Each page lists the sources used.
- We write everything in our own words and aim to present pros and cons fairly.
- Emergency advice follows current NHS guidance on when to call 999, NHS 111 or a dentist.
- Prices, charges and rules change. We date-stamp them and link to the official source so you can check the latest figures.
- We don’t publish invented statistics, reviews, star ratings or testimonials.
Content was last checked in September 2026. See all our sources.
Important to know
- Dentist Disaster is an independent information website. We aren’t a dental practice and aren’t connected with the NHS or any of the organisations we cite.
- Our pages are not reviewed by a dentist for your individual situation. Always follow the advice of the GDC-registered dental professional treating you.
- We may earn commission from some product links. That never changes our health information. Read our affiliate disclosure.
